Hello again. Taking the head off my car (valve seals and head gasket are gone) and replacing it with a newer/lower km head. I've gotten all vacuum lines taken apart, timing belt removed, all bracing on the intakes removed, bolts connecting exhaust downpipe to manifold, and head bolts out, aswell as all fuel lines and random stuff. My question is how the hell do you work around that bastard of a wiring harness that runs right through the intake... probably the most agravating thing that I've faced on this car by far! I was thinking of just disconnecting the wiring harness from the ECU inside the car to give me a little bit of slack to pull the harness over the top of the intake, then the head would come right out... but if Im missing something a little easier then please GOD someone let me know haha. Also, is the left side motor mount connected to the head? Im doubting considering its aluminum... but just thought I'd ask. Thanks everyone.
your best bet would be to unplug it from the ecu and do it that way. thats what i would do.but everyone has there own technique.
the left side of the motor is connected to the block..it has a little L bracket that dips under the head..Its a bitch to get off.unless you pull the entire motor like i did.
Wiring harness - Disconnect it from the ECU, undo the 2 screws in the engine bay that hold the rubber boot where the harness comes through and then the harness can be pulled through the hole. Now some of the sensor wires need to be disconnected (the ones not on the head), altenator and such. Then when you remove the head the harness comes with it. Of course it is possible to disconnect all the fuel injectors and pull the harness past the fuel rail, but that can be difficult.
Unplug the harness from the engine.... When I did my HG I pulled the harness out before pulling the head off. Its just in teh way if you leave it there.
yeah i did the same as gurr, and u can always leave ur intake in the engine bay just undo the bolts from the head, it can be hard but it turns out worth it in the end...wiring is a bitch to do after everything mechanical is in
