So i picked myself up another celica today an it's not a 162 ...got an 88 alltrac with a few minor problems (needs rear struts eventually an the front brakes are warped) but it really dosent have much else really wrong with it besides the 207xxx miles...the car also has an upgraded trim 57 ct...the car is actually really clean but could deffinetly use a repaint...the best part...Paid 1800 for it an the guy threw in 2 more turbos (that puts me at 3 total not including the one in the alltrac) and a down pipe for a gen 3 gte I was wondering tho if I can change the main bearings with the engine in the car because it dose have 207xxx miles on it Also I'm deffinetly not giving up on Cecilia (I've actually got the motor all put togather an in it just needs to be wired up, I've kinda been slacking on my build thread ) but I couldn't pass up on this deal an hell you can never have enough gen 4s right?! Yes you can change the crankshaft main bearings by just dropping the oil pan. The bottom half of the bearing will come out when you remove the bearing cap, the top half can then be rotated out by turning the crankshaft if your lucky...if that does not work then reverse the bottom half of the bearing that you removed and place it back on the crankshaft to use to get the top half of the bearing to start turning The bearing halves can only spin in one direction hopefully. They should have a little tab on one end which is designed to prevent the bearing from spinning when the bearing cap is installed. One half of each bearing will have a hole in it. It is critical to note which half has the hole when you remove the old bearing and make sure your new bearing is installed with the hole in the same half. This hole feeds oil to your bearing ...... a bearing without oil won't last long The top half of the bearing should have the hole I'm guessing buts its been a long time since I changed crankshaft bearings
You need to take the oil pan off anyway and get 2 sets of numbers so you know what size of bearing to order for each journal The following 2 pictures will show you where to find the numbers stamped into the block and crank and when added together will tell you the size of the bearing for each crankshaft journal
Hey St165-2765, would you happen to have the Con-Rod specs too? The journal diameter and bearing measurements? Replacing the Con-Rod bearing at the moment. The Con-Rod caps are all marked with a 1 but would like to know what size that mark is so I know what size to order. Crank is stock and not grounded down. Thank you.
