I went to leave work last night and my car wouldn't start, it would crank all day but just wouldn't start. I took the battery to get looked at and it was fine. I looked at the spark plugs and they dont look bad, i also checked the connection at the terminal on the battery and it is clean. I was thinking starter but the guy I bought it from just put a starter on it less than 6 months ago. Anyone have any ideas?
If it's cranking then there's nothing wrong with the starter. Have you pulled a plug to see if there is any spark happening when you crank it? If there is no spark then it could be the coil or the dizzy, if it's getting spark then I'd look at the fuel pump or fuel filter. Cheers Matt edit - you've checked most obvious thing and made sure it actually has fuel in it, right?
lol.. yes it has fuel and I have looked at the obvious things...lol I am going to check for spark tomorrow, it has been raining here for 2 days and I didnt want to play that game in the rain As far as the fuel filter goes.. ho hard is that to replace.. and is there a write up somewhere on how to do it?
Haha, no I actually did mean is there fuel in the tank come on, it's happened to everyone once right? Lol.... But yeah, failing that check that fuel is getting to the motor...
it has just stopped raining here so I am going to check some things today. How do i see if the motor is getting fuel? Is changeing the fuel filter a big pain? It is a cheap part and I was going to change it just to eliminate that.
IACV? could be not allowing enough air when it's cold? fuel filter isn't too bad. although the bolts are hard to get to, i just had it done for $70
use a double wrench trick and the bolts are easy......to check for fuel, disconnect your fuel line and stick the end in a coke bottle then try to start your car, if the fuel goes into the bottle your golden...if not then theres a clog or your pump went out
Make sure to check your timing as well cause it might have jumped and to check if your getting fuel make sure your fuel pump is actually turning on by pinning FP and +B in the diagnostic box in the engine bay then listen for it turning on.
Thanks for all the help guys. It turned out to be the fuel pump. It is going bad and i need to replace it.
Excellent, glad we could help. Now, I don't seem to be able to find a members ride thread with lots of pictures of your car :naughty :munch
