Had a great time at the drags and I broke the 11 second mark like I was hoping, here are the results.

Missed second gear on the 4th run and would have done better if my motor had its original compression, and got more traction on at the start.
But had a lot of fun and was a great experience.

Car went well and did not have a problem with it.

cost me a grand total of $650 tax in to get a 1997 box with everything changed except for axles. but since your motor seems tired with age, for $2000 you can get a BEAMS 3sge WITH a transmission for that price. 200hp? can't beat that![/QUOTE]

I have found a local gearbox repairer that can replace my box with a supposedly low km Japanese box for $700 ($50 off as i told him that i may have found an 260000km 89 Toyota Camry SV21 box for $250 from a wreckers nearby with a 3sge or 3sfe motor). The mechanic will also warrant the work and replace if there are problems at his own expense, where as he will not touch any other boxes.

    Does this price sound reasonable.

that seems good! also, if he can find a newer box, that'd be great too! (although he's gotta make sure that the flywheel/starter matches the box)

that does sound like a good price.

i would start looking at sourcing a new engine or rebuilding yours if in fact those compression numbers are correct. i'm sorry if i seem foward and perhaps a bit rude. it's hard to communicate over the internet at times. i don't try and assume everyone has a practically new engine like mine but there is a point in which you are just buying time on a motor that needs a refresh. and i do understand that a rebuild/replacement is not in everyones budget. but...if you enjoy racing the car then it is very near in your future.
