Hello there, My name is Stephen and I currently live in northern california, as a big christmas present my father in law got me a 89 celica st. He did buy it knowing it does not work, only had 114*** miles on it and looks great, so he jumped on it for 600 dollars. In the past weeks we have added a new muffler, spark plugs, clutch(just finished last night), and new fluids all over, there is some problems with non op title in registration so i have not been able to drive it, except going up and down the back roads, Just wanted to say hi and looking forward to all the insight from fellow celica lovers, this is my first car and love it time to add a couple little touches to it.
Hello Stephen and welcome from the UK. Excellent first choice of car and what a generous gentleman your father is. Stephen........:useless Start your own personal Celica thread on here.......and also post one here please. MEMBERS' CELICA ( photos only )
Yeah buster, cough up those photos ANYTHING you need to know about your new present can be found here :cheers
Welcome aboard!! Another fellow northern Californian! Get the running so we can finally get a meet going!! Lol anything you need let us know. And if your close to sac, let me know too! I have an st as well and can shed some light on some tips for ya..... I think. At least for the most part
Thanks guys, I am located in Rohnert Park, not far from sac to me, pictures on the way, still working with DMV as they are f**king stupid. would love the insite on my car, my father in law is very handy and works on cars all his life.
not too bad. about normal for california owners to be far from one another. got to see whats up with phantomjdm, aka: louis, and see if he wants to come along too. maybe even the sf owners if they are down to come too.
the st's are the lightest of all the models being that they are the absolute base for all of the others. no sunroof, no electronics (like power windows and mirrors), and no rear spoiler that is something to get right off the bat! being an st, you will be needing one off of a gt-s coupe! and while you are picking that one apart, dont forget to grab the brakes, front and rear! im in the process of gathering parts to complete my conversion. its a pain trying to find a gt-s at pick-n-pull because its all gt's and st's floating around there.......well, thats it for now! oh! and grab the seats while you are at it.... lol seems like a big list, and it is.. take your time and make sure your car is running right before getting the esthetics. damn, well the tranny and clutch are in already. so next time its out and about, pick up a later generation transmission and swap them out. i've got the s54 transmission out of a '94 gt 2.2l. gear ratios are different so expect a slight decrease to your fuel economy. =] live long and prosper
Yea I plan to go to pick and pull look for the rear lip wing, I have not looked up the difference between brakes, but I am sure that is not a bad idea, overall still need to wait til I get to drive it home. Right now its not registered as I have to deal with DMV, once that is all set game is on. We replaced the water pump, timing belt, clutch fluid, fuel pump, also. Not sure what to add, like you said the brakes and rear lip, anything else I should be looking for and also weakness for the car, I have been reading a bunch so things that could be problem areas. Thank you for making me welcome soon I will be getting photos.
welcome , cant wait to see your pics .....we are a demanding bunch arent we....its the new blood, lol
welcome. just my 2 cents...ask before you buy. usually we can save you a lot of headache, since this is your first car and all. there are lots of little differences in the models of the 4g celica.
Yea normally I would ask before I buy a car, this was a totally surprized by my in laws. What ended up happening is DMV never had it under non op status so talked to father in law gave me paperwork but shows that the original owners forgot to pay a late fee for whatever reason(blaming DMV), so they want 777 for the back pay all the way from 03, so needless to say very pissed and wanting to drive my car, got everything working just waiting on DMV. Now my father in law faxed them papers and letters about it being in non op and trying to fix this issue as it was not our mistake and now waiting for them.
I like to believe I am!......... At times can't help it, I'm a trekker But yes, ask before buying like mafix aka Willie said
