Well no fncking around here, get in get it done :p

Got the head off today, seems that it wasnt "blown" in the true sense of the word, just old and fncked really. Head doesn't appear to have gone soft, but is very very dirty in in the inlet and on the inlet side the cam/cam cover.
Bores look pretty good. So it seems it will be a straight forward fix (hopefully, haha).

Frack - Frikkin old age there
Check the T-VIS isn't jammed and the screws are tight, peen them and good luck cleaning it
I'm afraid you're going to have to do the valve stem seals, good news is you can buy the right tool for about $30
I'd hone it and fit new rings and bearings while it's apart, bores don't look healthy from here?

Stickers, dunno, haven't made any. depends on colours etc, pm & we can sort it

Yeah I know the stem seals are average on the inlet side. I'm getting the head checked for hardness anyway even though I'm pretty sure its fine, I'll get the engine place to give it a bath at the same time.
    TVIS is fine.
Bores just look a bit dirty, they are actually not bad.

Whats with this needing a mod to approve posts first, I don't approve.

First post i get, anti-spam and all that, but on EVERY post you've made?? That's weird, the rest of us dribble shit constantly without approval :lol

Making good progress on the motor, good thing you got it apart before it got worse

I don't approve either, you have over 100 posts already.
There's been a lot of spammers lately so I can understand if that was your 1st 10 posts like on some other sites

I think you'll find the seals are rock hard and crumble when you put pressure on them, they just can't last more than 20yrs.
Same goes for the rings which are thinner than those on the FE and I've never seen a set of unmolested bearings - till yesterday.

Overall I think you got lucky, nice original engine

Yeah its been every post so far, maybe I need 10 posts or more.

Anywho yeah I'll chuck some new seals in it while I'm at it, while its stripped down, not a hard job.

By the state of things (head gasket, vac hoses etc) this thing has never been apart in its life so it's not done too bad.

Yeah you guys are spot on. It is for spam control as that's been a problem and now it isn't. It is only for the first 5 posts. At least it should be as I see you are on number 6 now.

edit: Nope it was six. You should be good now.

    Testing...

    EDIT:
    Woo, ok all good now.

I'll drop the head off tonight to be tested and cleaned, after that I'll start making some calls to source the HG, stem seals, timing belt and front main seal. If it was my own car I would use nothing but genuine parts, but since this is a money mule I wont mind getting them from repco/bursons etc.

So probably won't be back together till next week as it will be with the machine shop for a day or two, then the parts have to come in. In the meantime I'll make myself a little petrol bath and go to town on the cam covers, timing belt covers etc, clean them up like new.

I bought the eportuning kit, it's about $100 shipped to Aus. I haven't unpacked it yet but can take some close-up pics tonight if you want to have a look, decide if the parts look like the quality you would want to use. For comparison, before i bought the kit I bought just a rocker cover gasket from Bursons, cost me $80 on it's own...

Must have cooked it when the gasket went

Damn, I threw away a good head a month ago and now there's 2 people needing one.
Look out for a ST165 head, it's better than the 162 or even better is the ST185/MR2 GTE head which fits your manifolds.

    Haha nope.
I've come across a few already, one has had a fresh rebuilt and was only ran a couple of thousand kms (before the bottom end spun a bearing)

Just a bit of an update, got the plenum back from the cleaners as it was very filth.
I've ordered the new HG, timing belt, front main seal and filters ready for when the head arrives.

I've already got a couple of people ready to buy it as soon as it's going but I might hang onto it for a bit longer as I am currently going through the process of importing another car, and I was thinking I could sell the Chaser, put the money in a high interest bank account until it's time to pay for the new car, in the meantime the 162 will be the daily.

No I will not tell you what it is, only that it's a Toyota and there is NONE in Australia (which the reason I'm having difficulties.)
