Climate Control Air Diverter Problem

Hey guys, haven't been here in a long time, but I'm here today with a question.

While having my car running at idle, I can hear the air diverter for my electronic climate control underneath the dashboard moving itself from cold to hot and back again. It's now pretty chilly here in Manitoba, and my car will only sometimes stay on the "heat" setting. Most of the time the air diverter will move over to cold and I end up having a nice chilly drive. I've been told that I can disable the diverter and move it manually, I just haven't got a clue how. Since winter is about to start here I'd like to just leave it on the "heat" setting all the time, and then fix it in spring or summer when the weather is a little more bearable. Does anyone know how to disable the electronic air diverter? Any help would be appreciated, thanks guys!

    Bobby

without taking any interior panels off, look behind where the radio goes, right above the ECU, there is a plastic cover covering the air diverter motor/arm. look for the one metal arm that moves and at one end, there is one clip keeping it on. unclip that and the arm should come out. this is a lot easier to reach on the right side of the car.

do check this out as it may help you:

Thanks for the reply. I've detached the moving arm as stated, and now I can manually move the arm back and forth. However, the actual motor that drives the arm still moves on its own and the air goes cold. Is there something else wrong here? I'm so confused, I replaced the thermostat last year, and the engine itself heats up to normal temperature (the needle sits at about the middle point of the temp gauge or just below the middle).

when you unhook it, it shouldn't be able to move from hot/cold from the motor. that metal arm is the only thing keeping it from moving. however, it does change hot/cold when you drive around as the forces of accelerating/braking move the flap.

one thing to try is take out the glove box (two screws on the bottom of it), take out the air tunnel (white box, 4 bolts around it, takes a bit of wiggling to get off), and the flap should be on the left of that box. i had to get to that point to understand the mechanics behind the air flap.

for the fix, i suggest looking at two things; the water hose control in the engine bay, the motor and the hvac controls
