Like i said i was siked that i now have 2nd gear and was able to drive! I had taken it for two hard ripps last week, and had the pcv hose vented to underneath the car. I was checking to see if that was the reason i was sucking oil into the intake. It appeared that was the reason(no smoke), but on my 2nd run when i let off, it didn't seem to be running right. All the gauges appeared ok and it didn't overheat, i got off the exit ramp and like an idiot shut down the car(less than a mile from home), it wouldn't start back up. I thought fouled plugs, had it towed home and earlier this week i got new plugs and put them in. (they were fouled) Today i started the car back up and it ran like shit, it was smoking alot from the tailpipe and was leaking fresh oil!! WTF! It's only been 7 years since i got to drive this car(picked it up in september) and I have gotten to drive it like 600miles. I need to bring some tools home from work, but i am pretty sure I blew the head gasket!

When I had the engine built 7 years ago i couldn't find any metal head gaskets so we used a fel-pro. The car then sat for 7 years(never being started) and was broken in on the dyno this year.(w/ and w/o nitrous)
After reading dome of the other discussions here it looks like head gaskets are common. It looks like i need to get a Cometic gasket and ARP studs. Is there anything else recommended? Oh, also my engine is bored .020 over. 87mm?

Thanks. I actually saw your post, not a bad price. I just hope that takes care of it.

I still have to do a compression test to make sure that is the problem. I am pretty sure it is, and I hope there is no other problem.
I think the car just sitting for so long and then getting the shit kicked out of it(w/ a Fel-pro gasket) it just gave out! fingersx

i hope so too!!! ohnoes ya the gasket you have probably got ate out of it or something.. but it shouldnt have gone so easy??? what compression are you running??

Not sure, I think about 10 or 10.5:1. It is set up w/ a stage Nos setup, which I didn't even really get to try. It was dynoed w/ and w/o Nos, i got it then dropped the clutch at 7500 (which is where my shift light is set for max power), and shifted all the way through to 5th that way. It spins through 1st and 2nd w/ a LSD, but on the 2nd run when I let off I knew it wasn't right.

Are the oil drains in the corners of the head? It is leaking fresh oil and I don't have a lift at home. There isn't any noise from the engine, so I am guessing it totally blew out the gasket!

hmmm.. im running 13.5-14 bar and i think thats why mine blew out and i had crappy head bolts aswell and that didnt help!!! crazy im not sure bou the oil, ask stig, or mafix, they'll sort you out!

    Where is the oil leak?
    What's the compression like?
Is there oil in the water/water in the oil?

H/G don't normally go without overheating or detonating
What worries me is the length of time without turning, bores & bearings rust out after about 6 months with no oil

Did you have any problems when you first started it?

It started and ran perfect when the tuner 1st started it. I did crank it over the years, it was in the car but didn't have an ecu to run it.
I am hopefully going to do my test tonight. I only ran it probably 2-3 miles each of the 2 runs. When i let off on the 2nd run is when there was something wrong, and i just drove it a mile or so back slowly. Nothing on the gauges showed any sign of anything being wrong.

Bye the way, the oil looks like it is leaking on the exhaust and from the rear of the engine. Didn't have time to jack it up and get under it yet!

Me too. Like I said, i only drove it about a mile after it wasn't right so I am pretty hopeful I just lunched the gasket! fingersx fingersx fingersx fingersx fingersx fingersx fingersx fingersx fingersx fingersx fingersx fingersx fingersx fingersx fingersx fingersx fingersx

compression test first. perhaps a ring land is broken

Okay, so I did a compression test.
    #1-145 psi
    #2-145 psi
    #3-155 psi
    #4-155 psi
I am not sure what compression was when the engine was built, Of course I didn't check before because there wasn't a problem. banghead

I figured I would take the intake manifold off because oil was leaking from the back of the engine. I started taking the nuts off of the studs, and they were barely snug. I jacked the car up put it on stands and found all of the nuts and studs pretty loose. The tuner that custom made them either didn't tighten them or they loosened up. They used (6)2-1/2" long
studs and (1) bolt. When i took the nuts off, I was able to wiggle all of the studs. They are not the studs w/ stops, they are threaded all the way down.
I also am not sure if this is a problem, on the T-VIS plate, they removed all the butterflies and screws. They welded closed the 2 openings to atmosphere between cylinder 2 & 3,
but the holes between 1 & 2, and 3 & 4 are open. Does that matter?

In any case, I don't see any coolant or coolant leaks. Could all the smoke and problems just be from my intake manifold being loose? :?

no, the motor would barely run if at all with a finger loose intake manifold.
i dunno what to tell you, but hope you get it fixed!, ur car seems pretty fast from what you say, would be a shame to see something terrible!

The holes between the cyl's won't cause a problem but it's not ideal, it will interfere with the flow of air to the cyls & lose power

Re-torque the head, check for oil leaking from the cam cover gasket and the sump gasket

You're going to need proper inlet studs & new gaskets, why mess with them in the 1st place?

There doesn't seem to be any oil coming from the valve cover gaskets. With the intake off I can see and feel the head and valve cover, it doesn't feel wet up top.

As far as re-torquing the head, I think they are the Toyota bolts not studs, and a Fel-pro gasket. Should i just do the Cometic head gasket and the ARP studs now?

They took the old studs out because they weren't long enough. They used a GTE intake and the T-VIS plate w/o the butterflies. (No Toyota ECU in car).

The GTE factory intake studs should work right? Or should i see if ARP has studs?

haha i didn't realize celicas could take 203 psi

145 AND 155 seem very low for compression doesn't it?

My motor is bored .020 over and has forged pistons and all new internals.(performance) It also has a ported and polished head!

The compression should be higher right?

Not if you have wild cams and the rings haven't seated yet

Why the GTE manifold? All the GTE guys want the GE manifold

They are the stock cams re-ground. The tuner said i needed more air flow, they modified the GTE and said front intake would be better. I have that custom 3" stainless exhaust and header, and i am running 2 stage Nos.
