So I have read up on the starter relay bypass modification, and for the last two days I have been looking around my area, Vancouver BC, trying to find a relay box to do the mod. I have been to many places and everywhere that I have been they are not available, or nobody knows what this relay box is... So, I had the great idea of just wiring in an external solenoid... Anyway, once I got home, I realized what a clusterf^%$ those wires were going to be to re-run, so I just used the existing wires to the solenoid and ran new ones to the starter.. Well, obviously it didn't work because I am posting in the diagnosis section. banghead

So I have a couple questions: Is it possible to hook up an external solenoid to a 165? If so, do I need to run completely new wires to it? And, does anyone know where to buy a relay box in or near vancouver? thx

Mine was done using a Ford relay from Lordco. I'll be back tomorrow and can get you some details.

I used an "FF138D" Solenoid, with "NO DIODE". IIRC, it's a Ford part. Purchased from Lordco.

They have the part in stock, so all I have to do is find out how to get to still creek on the losercruiser. Btw, the new part # is S5049.

No, just the solenoid (or whatever it is) mentioned above. How much is it now?

The other relay mentioned in the link is a lot cheaper than the one I got. I will get some pics up when I get home so you can see what it looks like.

Here's the relay I used. Pricier than the other type. I would have used the cheaper ones but I didn't have time.

That's a lot more compact than the one I used. I'll go with that next time.
