Yeah that's the one Rick the promblem is my rad doesn't have that pipe would it work if I just drilled a hole or do I need the original?
If you have metal end tanks you could fit a pipe in there to connect the hose. If they are plastic, you're outta luck. The other option is to tap into the top radiator hose with a coupler that has a pipe in it. I'll try to locate a pic of what I'm describing and post it up. *The ASI Aluminum rads for the 165 have come way down in price. I've seen them shipped for as low as $220 from Bellingham, WA.
Yeah I know what you mean I got metal ends I'll just add the pipe keep it original ... Im also wondering my fan isn't workin is it the cooling sensor cause it heats up and shuts off never drops from 1.85 rpm and I checked the fans electrical and it works fine
If you have metal end tanks but no coolant pipe for the turbo, sounds like you have a regular 162 radiator with single core, yes? If the fans aren't coming on and everything seems OK, it may be that it's simply not hot enough yet.
If you have a 162 rad, i would seriously consider getting an after market one (ASI) or a stock 165 replacement. my 165 had a 162 rad in it when i bought it, and i strongly believe it was one of the contributing factors to the blown headgasket i had to deal with. You can see the split in the top radiator hose that came on my car in this pic
So I should switch my rad ok umm but for the fan the car heats up and then it shuts off after like about 15 min the fan never comes on?
Turn your ignition switch to ON but don't start the car. Un-plug the coolant sensor in the bottom of the radiator passenger side and the fan should turn on. You should have a coolant sensor in the radiator bottom passenger side. If you don't b/c it's a 162 radiator, then someone has modified your wiring.
there are a couple on e-bay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ASI-...ptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories dang man they dropped in price alot since april @_@
Thanks Wonderz to Rick : I checked for that sensor under the radiator don't have it but the wiring was there hasn't been played with I have a 162 rad and fan still doesn't turn on when I have the car switched to ON so I know I need another rad but what do I need to change for the fan to work?
^Is the wiring for the coolant temp sensor and the sensor itself still there? I'm guessing not, sounds like the previous owner probably just removed it when he put in the 162 rad. You'll have to get a sensor, check the wiring and all relays to ensure everything's intact. Note: in the 165, the coolant temp sensor is mounted in the lower rad like in the below pic. You can see it just above the radiator mount. In the 162, the sensor is mounted on the thermostat housing:
Ok I got the fan working was the relay and I have to switch my rad that brings the coolant sensor cause the wires are there just not hooked up... My mechanic changed my rad just ordered for the wrong rad so thanks toevrone for th help car will be on the road soon
^Mafix is right, there are absolutely no big suppliers out there who can get you an aftermarket 165 rad; they simply do not exist. If your mechanic says he can get one, he's wrong. The only one he can get is one from 935 Motorsports or Toyota. Both have the weak plastic end tanks. PWR also makes one for the 165 on special order, but it's $600 + shipping costs. Go with ASI for $220 shipped.
Ok I returned the st162 rad and got the asi one will it come with the sensor? Cause my mechanic got rid of my old and I believe the sensor went with it...
