    hey guys,

    here's the story:
I bought a white lightning (so awesome) off my uncle in march this year (only done 180.000km's), it was in awesome condition apart from the common rust problems in the sunroof. Everything was original as he was the only owner. like the electric antenna still worked, the radio with the equaliser also worked. which i thought was mad. and a couple of days later, my bro was driving it through an intersection , and a stupid drunk decides speed and run through a red light at about 100km/h. the drunk t-boned the shit out my celica. thank god my bro was ok. Unfortunately for the lightning it was the first and last accident its ever had. its still sitting in my garage.

although i had it only for a couple of days, i loved it so much. The bad thing was that i lost my license for 6 months a couple of days after the accident. which was really depressing coz all i could see was the celica at its worst in the garage. then my mum told me, instead of moping around all day, why dont you buy another and then fix it up, as my engine was still in great condition.

so i set out to buy another white celica and i found one about 800 km's from where i live. only problem was, according to the previous owner, that it would most likely die after you get it home as the car has done 500,000+ km's. so i brought it and my cousin drove it down. and surely the engine was in a bad state. and so was the interior.

I had 6 months to fix everything. its usually plenty of time to restore a car to a reasonable state. first thing i did was take the dash out as this one was cracked. i did that 5 months ago. which was cool. coz i still remembered where the dash goes.lol . lame joke.

and i just realised that i have 35 days to get my car running. i found a dash in really good condition. and i put that back in with no problems.

    so here are the questions:
    - i was looking through the threads and it seems that there is a major chance that i have to pull the dash back out, so that i can get to the heater well thingo and clean out the leaves? is that a must because my heater and air conditioner work fine?? is there way i can tell its gonna be okay without pulling everything out? i know its better if i do?

-this is another stupid question, when you close the glove box does it click close or do you have to slam it shut? because when i put it back together, i had to slam it shut. which i dont think is right.

    - the rear window washer (the jet thingo). mine does not work at the moment. like the front ones work and i know they are connected, as my first celica worked like that. unless that was screwed. how do i fix that??

    - as my first one had the original white lightning stickers, i want this one to have it as well on both sides not just the one side. i was wondering if any of you guys would know where to get a pair, as i am planning to respray the whole car again.

    - and in this one the electric antenna doesnt work and the old one doesnt work as the accident had a fatal effect on it. is there a place that i can get one from or does anyone have a photo of one because i forgot how to put one back together again?

im trying to get it to the original state.

the electric antenna has no replacement as far as i know.

either 89celicagt or stig is working on the white lightening vynals. contact them in the vendor forum

if the blower motor works fine the leave it alone.

try closing the glove box gently and listen for the click. slamming it only destroys the latch on the box itself. you may have to adjust the catch on the bottom of the dash

check the lines to the rear wiper. it's under the headliner. might be clogged. there is also a seperate pump in the washer bottle just for the rear IIRC. check that too.

hopefully that clears everything up! it's good to see you post again BTW!

was that you that just sent a donation as well?

Sorry for the hijack Mafix, anyone who wants stock & donates gets my vote!

You can just remove the blower motor (3 screws), put your hand in and clean out.
Only remove the dash if you intend replacing the vent rubbers & replacing the rad, servo motors
or the outer is stuffed. You can clean out the leaves without pulling the dash.
Details & pics are on my page.

Loosen the 2 screws below the cubby, align it (bend the dash loop if it's still too low/high) then tighten the 2 lower screws when it's shut

Check the jet for blockage, use a pin or air in the hose to clear it. There's 2 motors,
one is next to your Brake master and the other is under your RH front wheel plastic insert,
there's also check valves in the line with non-return balls in them,
check they are working properly and the correct way round (my car came with one in
the wrong way round and only after replacing the motor did I realize the mistake)

I have a white lightning here, stickers are missing. Find me some decent close-up pics of the grafix and I'll make them up

This car also has a busted antenna, just replace it with an aftermarket electric antenna, you already have the brackets, wires etc? I don't think "fixing" a 20yr old antenna will work

    Question:
Can you post a pic of your exhaust manifold and water inlet pipe (temp sensor etc)
    - the car here has some strange stuff on it, ie 2 VSV's on the inlet pipe & a flat
header cover (no, not gen2!) - pic also on my page

You also have those unusual flat Gen1 headers (good for warming your lunch on)
    never seen them before!

Your inlet pipe looks like the normal setup, this one is strange with VSV's -
turn your inlet hose so the the air in the head can get back to the radiator, I use the 202 hose now

That harness holder near the cambelt looks VERY suspect, grab one from a ST182

Yes. 4th Gens wanted to go out with a "bang." Had bunch of special options, I forget the rest though.

i dont think they had any "special" options, everything it says in the ad for them is already in my gt-s, i think they were just fully loaded with all the options as some other celicas were too. just my .02

Did you notice that on this strange flat exhaust cover, the warning tag is written in english, french and.... german??

On "regular" heat shields, it's written in english, french and japanese. And White Lightnings 162s haven't been imported in Germany.

    Weird, no?

Yea, it's definitely not a JDM part

I think this exhaust is the same as found on later model FE motors, it looks very similar
    to some I've seen on Camry's, 202's , Corona's etc from about 92 onwards

That exhaust cover is the same for North American ST162s with the 3SGE motor. It's pretty normal here ;)

I was going to take the manifold, got the cover off and noticed the firing order is wrong!
Must be a low performance version?

hey guys thanks for all your help. whoa sounds like im gonna leave this forum. lol.

i took out the blower and there was a fair bit of leaves and stuff in there. so glad i did that.
i ended buying an electric antenna and installing that.
    the cubby works fine.
and now i just have to get a new motor thingo for the washer bottle thing. or ill just pull it out of my old one.
thanks everyone for all your help. you guys have helped me so much. words cant simply measure.
stig: i ended up going through your "page" and i couldn't get rust out of my head. so the following morning i went to check my spare wheel and as i lifted the tire surely there was loads of rust there. i wanted to see how bad the rust so i gave it a little flick which was a bad move because i was able to see the ground. damn. so i went to an autoshop and bought this rust thing. and as you spray it converts in to a black substance. which is so cool. i was planning to make the hole i already made bigger and put a rubber blanketing grommet so it looked normal. here's the best bit. i got a hole saw, so i could make a hole, and i couldnt make one. the boot well was so tough it was crazy. well i thought it was. in the end i had to file it out which was a massive PITA. luckily that was the only place that had rust as i took the carpet out and everything, and there was no rust to be found. ill post the photo tomorrow. my bro has the camera.
