my mechanic says i need a new air flow meter and he quoted me like $350USD for the part. is he fucking with me?
lol that sounds like stealership pricing. Is this what you are looking for? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1988...ptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories This is for an FE engine, mind you. If I don't know what I'm talking about, one of the other guys will correct me lol What are the symptoms of your car?
yeah i thought it was a little too much as well after looking on ebay. and it is an fe. the symptoms are that it doesnt get enough gas once it starts so it dies. but thats not the issue, like i said its at the mechanic. i just dont want to get screwed.
I had a lot of fun trying to diagnose my air flow sensor back in the day. I was getting some weird revving issues, rpm was going all over the place... so I basically unhooked my sensor (kept if plugged in) I moved the door inside the sensor around and basically the car stalled... which is what was supposed to happen. Looked like my sensor just packed it in :S After I replaced the sensor with one from a parts car, my issues went away. Cleaned it up too, as well as the filter.
i bought one off ebay for 27.50 haha. turns out in my impulsive buy, i got the one for the ge instead of the fe. anyone know if they are compatible, not just physically but functionally?
I want to say no, but I'm not totally sure. Check the part #: 3sfe AFM is 197100-2850 [listed on the chrome part of the black/chrome sticker]
can always try the junkers for your parts. but then, i trust the guys on the forums more than the junkers. and there is less mess. and there's the S&H cost too. all up to you though. i would go with the forum.
