my mate Doug who helps build my car and myself have been thinking bout this magazine challenge. If we can get the money together, ( big if, for me, but if my new company goes well its do able) so its just a paper project at present.

    The challenge is as follows

to set the fastest time over 3 disciplines,
    possibilities are:
    Autocross on gravel / tarmac
    Slalom
    Qtr mile
    Top speed challenge.

With a car that has cost no more than £999.00 to buy / or put together.
the car must be able to be sold on for £999 and you must show receipts for new parts
you can "borrow" parts, such as wheels or seats, but not engines and the such like.
It must be road legal and driven to and from the venue.
Basically you have to build to the spirit of the laws, so no S15 nissans with ropey paint but 400bhp engines etc, or no stock BMW M3s

We both think a ST162 would do well.
Plan is buy a running but tatty one.
    Strip it out.
    MR2 lsd
Cheapo clutch, later gen ones maybe?
    cheap springs / shox
    15" wheels
home made exhaust / intake kit
    NOS.
We can borrow a basic kit of NOS from a V8 addict we know, but do you think it would hold together for the runs?

To be on the pace, we need to get the car into the 14s for the qtr and top out over 130mph, we figure with the stock shape being good, top speed should be okay, traction maybe an issue on the strip.

This gives you an idea of the things raced.

This is a paper idea, but your thoughts guys.

Yes both, it's very pointy indeed, almost overly so for the road.

Big difference without the weight & drive to the rear, as Mafix points out.

Stick with a 3SGE block, as I believe the 3SFE engine and tranny combo top out at 127....won't hit 130.

col to know on both counts, If my company takes off, I think there is a real posibllity of doing this next year, even just as a bargain track car.
