hey guys im new here so im not really sure i should put this but whatever. im not really sure how to figure out what engine i have in my 1987 coupe. is it the ge or fe?
Check here: viewtopic.php?f=57&t=439 It should be written on your chassis plate as well as the gearbox code etc
There's a silver plate behind your motor next to the silver centre brace mount You may have to page through that list I gave you, they are all there tho
on the intake manifold in red writing it will say eithe EFI or TVIS TVIS = GE EFI = FE Also if the rocker covers have the word "TOYOTA" with lines either side cast into them (as in the word dints in) like this =TOYOTA= its a ge easiest and quickest ways to tell that i can decribe
Let's hope the badges are still there?, LOL I see you're in US, the plate is next to your brake fluid res
yeah on it says efi on the intake manifold so i guess its an fe. and yeah that plate thing by the brace is still there but i dont think it says what kind of engine. it just has a bunch of numbers and letters. thanks guys
hahaha GOLD the FE's are generally considered to be more reliable but at this age that theory kind of goes out the window. Both the ge and fe are very strong motors and are quite easy to rebuild. The GE IMO is much better better power range through the revs and more power over all and still gives great econemy
I have both motors FE has 20hp less, better economy and reliability due to less stress on the bearings etc
I've mentioned before that I have the wasted-spark late-spec 3SFE in my daily driver, and absolutely love it - it suits the cruiser type of car perfectly. But it isn't a sports coupe type of motor
