I was just curious. I don't ever plan on wrecking my baby, but I do drive on a knarly mountainous interstate that's cram packed full of retard drivers that are always trying to wreck . So how do these cars hold up in 70+mph wrecks (112km/h)? I know it all depends on what kind of wreck, like getting enilated by a semi, your pretty much dead in any car. :shock: The only thing I miss about my old volvo was, that If some braindead fukbag crashed into me... that burly old tank would fuk them up and I would walk away. That is as long as they aren't in some gigantic vehicle anyways. *edit If I had to guess how they hold up, not the greatest not the worstest. I regard the 4th gen pretty safe. The chassis is very stiff and is made out of metal instead of modern plastics I flew with an old one 2 meters in the sky, hitting some things before landing and nobody got hurt, only the car .
i would agree on very safe. i've been in one that rolled 4 times and was still running when we landed upsidedown. we walked away.
Wow! I was expecting that it would fold up, but there is alot of metal in them, and they were built well for such a light car.... Still running when u landed? What motor?
well you guys should talk to jim about all the internals of the door supports. he is 86v6celica i think. anyways i am pretty sure he has ripped through the car eliminating as much weight as possible. the doors themselves are a beast. but just to put things into a different perspective for you, my roomate has an 06 corolla S. she backed it into a standard plastic everyday run of the mill garbage can and has about a baseball size dent in her rear quarter pannel. i bumped my 89 celica up against our wooden fence post and scraped the paint off of my rear pannel backing up one night. no dent. just some nice scrapes. not that it was a valid test or anything, and i have no numbers to back anything up, bugt i would say you will be ok if anyone sideswipes you or nudges you. head on collision, shit you have about 3-4 feet of engine in front of you that wont move.
a freind of our ed was in a horrible crash and he walked away. the only thing not damaged beyond belief was the drivers side.

ouch! thats gotta leave a mark. The 4g is a small car from the 80s, its not gonna be that safe. Just dont get in a wreck and you wont have to worry about it
heh i would say these cars are nowhere near safe. advancements in crumple zones and other safety features pretty much make old cars look like death traps. add in the fact that over the years structural integrity is lost to rust and such. good luck ;p but if you are 50 and care about safety then dont buy a sports car. i was in one crash in a car from the 80s, rear ended at about 50k the bumper was bent to the ground and the seat fd up my back with how it held up in the crash. oh and we dont have airbags, that kinda shows how far behind the car is haha
with the amount of things my car has been thru over the years, I can say it will hold up to urban driving then some. pretty safe considering how old it is. As long as everything is in good working order .
