I have a lot of side to side slack in my automatic shifter. Is there a way to fix this? Or do I have to replace the whole shifter, or what? I am lost, I have been just letting it slide for the last month or so, since I got it, but I can't let it slide anymore, it rattles and it's becoming an irritant. Thanks for any help!

I searched through the BGB and could not find anything on the automatic shifter so the best I can do is give you an exploded picture of the mechanism from Toyota's EPC.

It might be that the bushings are worn out. 33511B

That was kind of what I was thinking also. Is there anywhere that might sell some kind of upgrade for that? Like maybe a brass, or aluminum, steel bushing... If not, I could always get some stock ones, and have some machined off that...

Well at $1 each I think I would just get a couple of stock replacements. Unless you can machine them yourself getting some made would be rather expensive.

I doubt anyone makes aftermarket one specifically for the Celica especially seeing as it is only for the automatics and its only a dollar part to start with.

So if it is that bushing then you need 2 of Toyota part number 90385-11003

My 86 GT had the same problem. It's those plastic bushings - mine were broken. I used a long bolt, a nut, and some washers to put it back together. It worked good and was very tight, but tended to loosen itself up after a while. I guess I would have just bought the bushings if I had known they were so cheap!
