Must of you have read my "Starting problems with the new JDM engine" in diagnostics. Now here is the problem that I experience today.

I drove about ten miles to my friends’ house to pick him up for work with no problems. Before this I have driven the vehicle around town with no problems. We then got on our way to work, a fifty mile drive one way.

About ten miles into the drive I had to pass a vehicle and accelerated to about 80 MPH, I then when down back to 65 MPH when I noticed the temperature creeping into the red. I pulled over and let the vehicle cool down a bit. I tried driving again, but it just went into the red. The drive to work is on a steady incline, but nothing major. We turned around back to his house and all the way there I had to shut the vehicle off while coasting and then turning the vehicle back on. I did this tell we got to his house.

All day at work I kept thinking about what could had wrong. Did I blow the head gasket?

I got back from work and now I had to drive the car back home. I drove the ten miles to home with no problems. The gauge stayed in the middle and never when higher. At home, I parked the vehicle and let it run approximately fifteen minutes and no problems. The fan kicked on and it never when near the red, always stayed in the middle. So I don’t think it’s the head gasket.

The temperature in the morning was 35 degrees and on the way home 61. So I don’t think outside temperature had anything to do with it.

In the morning I did noticed that the fan would not kick on tell the gauge was almost to the red and by then it was too late.

Could the Temperature sensor gone bad and only work once and a while? What do you guys think? What could it be now? So, here we go again.

    Thanks,
    Javier

check your coolant levels when the car is cold. If its full and clean, you probably didnt blow a HG. If its low you might have a bad HG or just low fluid from the swap.

    thermostat

The thermostat is new. I replace it during the swap.

I agree. Check the coolant level then check the therostat. I put a new "safety" thermostat in my truck and the first time I drove it, it locked open and would never heat up. My point is that even a "new" thermostat could fail.

i had the same problem in my trac when i put in an autzone thermostate in. Wouldn't warm up for the life of it.

I also want to say that the relay that turns the fan on is failing. Sometimes it will work, sometimes it wont. My fan wasnt turning on randomly so i just replaced it, cost about 20$ but now it comes on. So next time it heats up, c if the fan turns on.

Also, one last possiblity is the radiator cap...

just FYI on the turbos you need to use OE thermostats. not aftermarket. the 165 thermostat is special to it.

When I got my first celica my car went into the red. Didn't know what it was till I noticed that the cooling fan was not connected.. Once I connected it there was not problem.
    Good Luck

My fiances honda integra did that same thing, she had put like 20k on it in 2 years, and it started getting hot all the sudden. She had it worked on, replaced the valve cover gasket, hoses, and coolant, and the problem has gone away... She has a stat in the back of her car, just in case... I would also check your radiator cap... Also look and see if your coolant is more water than anti-freeze... Also, pull out your dip stick, and check the oil, if it's murky, then you have a blown head gasket...
