So ive been thinking about a swap in my girls 6th gen. It has a 7AFE  although a puny engine it puts down some ok power. Anyhow since the 4a and the 7a are from the same engine family would this swap be easy becuase the A series motor mounts or are they different. So far ive decided the silver top 4A suits my needs. I was more or less just wondering what you guys thought about this. Feedback?

if u are goint that road,,, goto aeu86.org or club4age and gather info o how to make a 4age stroker usinga a 7afe block ... thats the real deal from that u have to put together... basicly u get a 1.8 4age ;) with more torque of 1.8 liters and tope end of 4age , win win situation...

    and google 7age ... for infos :)

The 6th gen. used the 7AFE? Jeez, my girls 93 Corolla has that motor... what in the hell was Toyota thinking?

4AGE swap FTW. That stroker idea sounds pretty cool.

ya the 6th gen ST had the 7afe and the GT had a 5sfe. There was no GTS model so motor options are kinda slim. Ive read about the 7age stroker im gonna do some more homework on that and see what i can come up with. I might end up doing a full swap becuase i want to be able to do the whole thing in about 5 days with minimal cost. Plus how many silvertop celicas has anyone seen?

There was a GT-S trim for the 6th Gen, it was just for Canada only on the NADM.

Coomer, the admin of 6GC.net swapped a Silvertop into his Celica, as did Colossus20v over on Celicatech. As for folks that are still active within the community with that engine, those are the only two I can think of.

There is another guy that is currently doing the swap on his `90 ST as well. He is using the Blacktop ECU so that he can run the ITBS open, the Silvertop still requires an AFM. I am not sure of the changes required to use the later ECU, Coomer did it as well though.

I looked into it for a while, going with the whole 7AGE route as well. It would be an interesting swap. However the internals on the Silvertop and Blacktop are performance oriented from the factory.

If I were to do it, I would be looking for an older 4AGZE block, with the oil squirters, and try to find aftermarket forged 7AFE internals. This would give you a more solid base if you ever decided to follow the forced induction route down the road.

Since you are looking at doing it for you girl's car, I would just find a good Silvertop and drop it in untouched. No point in going through hell to build a monster engine that you can't guaranty how it is gonna be treated.

Thanks man thats the kinda input i was lookin for. Will the 7A tranny bolt up to the silvertop? All im gonna need is the silvertop ecu and harness right. She needs a new clutch something fierce so i might just do a motor swap + clutch and call it good. A Straight up 4agze would be killer but i think that would take to long. For anyone whos never seen it...

I do believe the tranny will bolt up. I don't know for certain. I know that it is possible to source a 6-speed FWD tranny if you get a Blacktop from the right Levin. You can normally get a 5-Speed with a Silvertop, most importers keep the tranny and engine together.

a six speed you say!? That sounds interesting i might have to check into that one. wish the US would have got the BZ-R and the levin and the trueno. SR5 and GTS...that sounds ok but a BZR corolla sounds killer lol maybe its just me.
